I hadn’t had any vocal coaching since college days (30 years ago), and wanted to find out what the possibilities were for “finding” my voice again. Julie worked with me on an ad hoc basis over a few sessions to help me determine if this was something I might get back to enjoying again now that I’m close to retirement. I took my first class with Julie last week. Prior to the class I had always loved singing when alone. I never had confidence in my ability. Meeting with Julie was most importantly a very enjoyable experience. She was knowledgeable and educated me in a very human way. It allowed me to absorb the information well and not get lost in jargon. After warming up with her, I was able to sing and hit pitches that I had never been able to before. She gave me the confidence to put my all into the song. I didn’t hold back and was able to sing at a level that impressed me. Since the class I have been energized and felt greater confidence singing, even in public. This has brought me so much happiness. This weekend I even felt comfortable singing to my friends at a gathering. I am now feeling the urge to do karaoke and get behind a mic.

Julie is my aunt, and although we live on opposite sides of the state, when I was around eleven or twelve she began giving me lessons over FaceTime/Skype. She is a fantastic teacher. Her knowledge about the science behind vocal technique makes lessons much more helpful as you actually gain an understanding of what is happening inside your body when you sing (and therefore how to improve.) Over the time that I took lessons with her, I saw huge improvement in my voice and although it’s been a few years since we’ve had consistent lessons together, I know that I am still using those techniques and using what I’ve learned when I sing.

Julie is phenomenal, she has a wealth of knowledge, experience and teaching techniques. I began lessons with an interest in vocal training and musical theory. She has been so helpful, adapting lessons to work with my voice and learning style. Not only has my voice improved dramatically (my initial personal goal), but her techniques and teaching methods have focused on both the short and long term. She really cares about her students and works on finding the root of the problems and provides the techniques to overcome them and maintain the progress. After several months of lessons I feel Julie continues to exceed expectations, I continue to see improvements, and as I keep setting the bar higher and I know Julie will be there to help be reach my goals.
My dad runs a karaoke contest back in my hometown. I never entered because I was so self-conscious of my voice. I was trying to sing “Baba O’Riley” in my bedroom and even the cats ran out. I started taking lessons from Julie earlier in the year so I could impress my father when I went back for the holidays.
Julie is amazing. She helped me figure out what I was doing wrong and how to focus my breathing. I was having trouble with the “we’re all wasted!” part but soon I was able to do it without hesitation.
For Easter my dad had the contest in the backyard (cuz covid) and first place got a “basket of egg-cellence” prize. I entered. I was so nervous. My dad even said “Are you sure you want to do this in front of your mom? it’s been a hard year for her”. I sang “Baba O’Riley” and watched my dad’s jaw drop. Tears came down his face by the time I finished. I felt so great to sing to him. I didn’t win but he snuck me one of the egg from the basket and gave me a wink. I honestly owe all of this to Julie. I can’t wait to sing some other songs for mom and dad.

Julie is an excellent teacher that I would recommend for numerous reasons, the most important being:
First, Julie can actually sing and demonstrate all the techniques that she will be teaching you. This seems common sense for any teacher but its always reassuring to know a teacher can actually practice what they preach.
Second, she is excellent at diagnosing technical issues with your singing and providing you with as many solutions as it takes for you to overcome them. She is very patient and enthusiastic as you work your way through obstacles which is very helpful for those who are not yet confident in their singing abilities.
Third, she designs lessons by listening to what you are looking to gain and helps steer you towards the goals you want to achieve. This means you spend time learning styles and techniques that interest you which always makes lessons exciting and fun.
Fourth, she is very flexible with scheduling which is very important for those with a busy schedule like myself
There are more points that could be listed here but the overall takeaway for me is that Julie is a fun and passionate teacher who I highly recommend.
I highly recommend Julie for voice lessons. She’s been teaching my 15 year old for the past year and he’s improved a ton. Just as important, he is highly motivated to go to voice lessons every week. No nagging needed!

I have been working with Julie for about two months now, and I have already shown improvement in my vocal ability/technique. I had fallen out of regular vocal lessons for some time, and she essentially helped me start all over again and re-learn singing techniques. She helped me learn this in a very short time, and it wasn’t long before I was pulling chest voice less, I had started to lose the nasal quality I sometimes had, and I was learning to sing much easier. Already, I am pushing less air out and have begun expanding my range. To get into the details, I used to crack around an E4, but I have lately been able to start reaching up to an A4, after just a few lessons. I look forward to work with Julie more, as she can help me learn to get better and better.

Julie was the best teacher I’ve ever had! She took the care to explain to me the science behind my voice, something I had never understood. She was always accommodating and flexible. I see a real improvement in my voice, from the beginning we honed in on specific things to work on and areas to improve. She always took care to ask how my voice was feeling, how I was feeling generally, anything that might effect my performance. I could not recommend her any more strongly 🙂
Let me preface this review by saying how much I love to sing. I spent most of my adolescence playing in bands and attempting to “sing” — although I never felt comfortable at the microphone and I certainly had problems with pitch. Eventually, I got to a point where I wanted to really learn how to use my instrument, and I decided to find a vocal teacher. Enter Julie. Of course, Julie has a remarkable voice, but she’s also a wonderful teacher. There’s so much to say here. First off, she has been such a great teacher and motivator. I really didn’t know if I was capable of learning how to properly sing, but Julie has been able to teach me the correct technique, approach, and knowledge to really improve my voice. Secondly, she is patient! As someone who was shy about my voice and tends to analyze most things, she takes the time to thoroughly answer my questions and explain concepts to me with real life examples. Sometimes it’s hard to hear what you’re doing wrong if you don’t have an experienced teacher showing you how to correct it. And lastly, she’s given me the confidence to sing. For a long time, I was skeptical about performing, even though I love to sing, but through Julie’s teaching I have been able to overcome my stage fright and really enjoy singing in front of people. I recommend Julie to anyone who wants to strengthen his or her voice or learn how to properly sing with confidence!
I am in the final stages of completing an album that has been immeasurably improved with Julie’s help. I could offer praise, but I’ll better leave to friends and followers of mine who have given me feedback like this: “Your vocals have improved amazingly.” “Whatever it is you are doing with your singing, keep doing it.” I have had some of my most productive recording sessions right after lessons with Julie. In the better part of an afternoon, I reconstructed a complex vocal harmony piece that I had been struggling with for six months. She is a great teacher and also a fun person. We have also spent a good deal of time discussing my artistic process in creating an album full of emotionally intense and in some respects challenging material, and I have appreciated her openness on this as well.
I have always been into musical theater and acting, but singing was something I always wanted to work on. Julie has not only helped me find my voice, but also better ways to audition, which have helped me land and master roles I never thought I could take on.

I really enjoy the explanation of each warm-up as well as the versatility with which I can explore different styles with Julie. She is well equipped to tackle a variety of styles in my voice and help me grow more comfortable in my mix.
I feel like I have grown as a vocalist after just over a month of lessons (every other week), and I have a concrete set of tools at my disposal to fight off some of the nerves that inevitably come up when performing.
Caters to my specific vocal needs yet very professional in her approach to each lesson. I travel 90 miles each week to attend her private lesson and each week I know I’ve made the right choice.

Finding a vocal coach who’s the right fit for you is always difficult; finding someone who is sensitive to what YOUR voice specifically needs. It requires a lot of sensitivity and knowledge about this complex instrument. Julie has all the sensitivity, skill and knowledge. Sometimes I feel like she is inside my body; she appears to know exactly what is happening in there, what can be done to strengthen the quality of my voice, and she explains it all in the simplest way. Every lesson with her is a joy filled with plenty of exciting discoveries that have strengthened my voice and my love for singing!
I found Julie on Craigslist while looking for a vocal coach. I had vocal training as a teen but had not worked with a coach for ~15 years. I was preparing a song for my wife at our wedding and Julie was terrific throughout the whole process — helping me select and ultimately perfect a song. She worked through problem spots and truly changed the way I sing in a few years.
All in all, working with Julie was a first class experience (and affordable!). If you’re looking for a vocal coach, look no further.
My experience taking lessons was amazing! She was able to unlock so many things about my voice and helped me with my fear of hitting high notes. Julie is still my voice teacher. She’s excellent. I’ve made a lot of progress under her instruction. I had tried to learn proper singing on my own, but you really need an expert there in the room to give you real time feedback. That said, she also gives a mean Skype lesson, which I opted for a few times when I was too unwell to travel. Both in person and remote lessons are well worth it if you want to take your singing to the next level.
I just started working with Julie a couple weeks ago. I knew right off the bat I was going to enjoy working with her. She is warm and inviting. Having taken lessons when I was younger, I am somewhat in the know of vocal terms and exercises, so I can tell you that she is very knowledgeable about her practice and teaches me new things every lesson. She takes it very seriously, but sets a very light, positive, and fun atmosphere. Although her studio is within her home, it is very professional and private. The studio room itself is very nice and comfortable.

Many people spend their whole lives wondering if they have the ability to sing, but usually self doubt and other external factors prevent them from doing so. When you awake do what you love and your passion will guide you.
One day through a chance posting on Craigslist I found Julie and instantly passion turned into a reality. Julie empowers her students through understanding their learning styles and automatically recognizing where they are on the vocal register.
My brothers who are both general contractors emphasize that on any job you can only accomplish two of three things. 1. Price (which is hopefully competitive 2. Quality 3. Time. Julie accomplishes all of these with a state of the art studio that embraces new technology while having the nuances of true Music tradition.
Her client management is excellent with flexible time scheduling, follow up emails/texts, digital send of recorded sessions and top notch professionalism and cordiality. There is none of the pretension that I have encountered of many musicians that utilize teaching as peripheral income.
She even motivated me to kick the nicotine habit once and for all.

I took my first voice lesson with Julie about 6 months ago. As a songwriter new to performing, I wasn’t comfortable with my voice as a tool and it showed. I struggled to truly “own” whatever tune I was playing and often I would have fatigue, sometimes with pain, after just a few songs. So I looked for help. If you’ve never taken a voice lesson before let me tell you, it can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing experience, especially for someone who does not consider themselves a singer. However, it did not take long to get over these feelings of insecurity as Julie is sincere, kind, and professional. After about 3 lessons in, I noticed a significant increase in my confidence, delivery, and stamina. I’ve not only been able to perform songs that were well out of my reach less than a year ago, but also able to play sets lasting over an hour which is a huge accomplishment for me.
We were fortunate enough to find Julie last spring when my daughter decided to audition for her school musical. She had no prior vocal experience, and does not play an instrument. Julie was life-saver! She is extremely professional, yet warm and fun, and immediately put my daughter at ease. Their work together gave her the confidence to audition feeling that she was extremely well-prepared. My daughter did end up landing the role of Adelaide in Guys & Dolls. She continued to work with Julie while rehearsing for the role, and continues to do so on an ongoing basis. Julie is a skilled and knowledgeable vocal trainer, who listens and adjusts based on the student. She is committed to proper warm up and a keen technician and student of the vocal art. She is a terrific role model and we will be forever grateful that she provided our daughter with a wonderful introduction to vocal training.

Finding Julie through Thumbtack has literally been a life changing experience for me, I totally lucked out. I am a 21 year old student in Boston, and have been taking voice lessons on and off since middle school. Most of my teachers were interested in just expanding my range and ability to sing classically without really teaching me how its done properly. Julie completely opened my eyes to proper technique, and I am now able to hit high notes easily I would have never before expected to hit thanks to her.
Julie also listens to what YOU want out of the lesson. There’s no exact structure each lesson because your voice is different day to day. Her lessons are truly based on when you feel properly warmed up and she caters certain techniques toward what works best for you. She really helped me understand that techniques work differently for each individual singer, and if something doesn’t work or feel right to you, she always has a new technique in store. Julie is AMAZING about letting you choose songs you are truly interested in. Something I can’t say for my previous teachers. She will give you guidance and suggestions, but she is great about catering to your favorite genres and singing styles. I am NOT a musical theater single, and Julie has been able to help me embrace my folky/country/rock sound. Although my time in Boston as a student is short, I can say with all my heart that working Julie has been one of my favorite things about my time in this city. Julie is an awesome instructor. I have taken lessons from couple of different people, but she is far the best. I had issues with reaching high notes, but now after learning the proper technic, I’m able to hit the high notes without reaching. Also, I had difficulties understanding and getting into the mixed voice, but after taking lessons with her I can get into the mixed voice and have improved greatly. She takes the time to listen to your concerns and confussions and explains it in the language that one can understand. If it is hard to explain it, she’ll show you by example. Julie makes you feel very confortable so that you can express freely and with confidence. I enjoy very much taking lessons from her.
